Manchester Museum

The Manchester Museum was opened to the public in 1885. The museum houses about six million items from around the world. Galleries include butterflies and carvings from India; birds and bark-cloth from the Pacific; live frogs and ancient pottery from America; fossils and native art from Australia; mammals and ancient Egyptian craftsmanship from Africa; plants, coins and minerals from Europe; art from past civilisations of the Mediterranean; and beetles, armour and archery from Asia.

Family activities and events organised throughout the year including school holidays.

The National Cycle Network is 5000 miles of safe, signed, attractive cycle routes, open and mapped in June 2000. It is made up of traffic-free sections and traffic-calmed road and minor roads, running right through urban centres and reaching all parts of the UK.

Sustrans is the charity co-ordinating the project and will continue to work with local authorities to expand the Network to a target of 10,000 miles by 2005.

The Corgi Heritage Centre

The Corgi Heritage Centre features a complete history of the Corgi company from its early days as Mettoy, set up just before World War II, to the introduction of the Corgi name in the mid 1950's, right up to the present day.
