Performing Arts and Actor Training in Hertfordshire. Mimic is a stage school, a theatre company and youth theatre. We teach young people from 3-22 years and provide:

Why we are different:

• INDEPENDENCE: There are no limits to what we can achieve. We are not a franchise. We are a small, independent company so we aren't limited to what we can pursue - there are no rules. If we want to change something, we change it and we don't have to go through anyone to do so.
• MULTIPLE OPTIONS: At Mimic we appreciate some people may not have the time or budget for the traditional 'three hours' of Performing Arts training offered at most schools. So we offer multiple options for our students, so they can choose to take part in 1.5 hours of training, or 2-hour classes instead.
• SHOWS: At Mimic we learn by doing, which means every single student aged 7 or over is guaranteed a speaking line and every Mimic group partakes in live shows every year. In a typical year, most classes partake in multiple shows, public performances and end of year showcases.
• INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES: Mimic has regular connections with agencies, to offer our students the chance to work professionally if they wish. Mimic also offers countless opportunities to our students relating to industry work or experience. Some of these in the past have included: a professional music video with Tyler Rix, a gardening documentary, a short film, professional headshots and much more.
• MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS: At Mimic we promote positive mental health in our young performers. We regularly talk openly about mental health, support #time4change and encourage our students to be inclusive and non-judgemental of others so that everyone feels safe. In 2021, we held a mental health workshop with a Mental Health Educator to help our students and teachers better understand mental health.

YAFTA is a renowned and reputable screen acting academy based in the UK and provides Spotlight Accredited diploma training programmes.

With online and physical evening classes and diploma courses available, alongside industry pro workshops throughout the year, there is an opportunity suitable for those looking to pursue their dream of screen acting.

At YAFTA we aim to develop confidence and inspire creativity and passion to improve the performance of our students as actors.

The structure of our teenager TV and Film acting classes is similar to that of the adult classes, however, tailored to be age and ability specific for teenagers.

It is our aim to prepare all students for work as professional film and TV actors. We educate our students to equip them with the necessary skills, tools, knowledge and psychological preparation, which are essential to succeed in the film and TV industry.

Our students are encouraged to be professional, punctual, polite, and reliable throughout their education at YAFTA. Through the classes they will develop team working skills, build confidence and strengthen interpersonal relationships, all whilst embracing their own creativity through acting.

The film & TV industry is seen by many as an impenetrable world. For many, securing work as a screen actor may feel unrealistic. However, through specialist training, professional screen acting academy YAFTA, has successfully trained many of its actors to become professional screen actors who now secure work in a whole variety of productions for major broadcasters including; Netflix, Sky, BBC, ITV, Amazon Prime, Channel 5, Channel 4 and more.

The YAFTA Academy is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire and home to the 12 month, part-time, Youth Acting for Screen Diploma. The diplomas are taught by tutors who trained at the world’s leading drama schools including RADA, LAMDA, Central School of Speech and Drama, ALRA and LIPA, as well as industry professionals currently working in the acting industry. The course is aimed at those with limited screen acting experience, who will be taught the skills, techniques and industry knowledge required to become a professional screen actor. Diploma applications are open throughout the year, with successful applications invited to attend an audition at the academy. 0% payment plans are available for the Diploma courses.

We also run weekly Acting for Screen classes on a Wednesday at the Academy in Leeds for 7-11 years old
